WebFilings Case Study

WebFilings has created the first and only end-to-end solution for external financial reporting: a fully-integrated, cloud-based application dedicated to meeting SEC reporting requirements.

By reducing the time, risk and costs associated with the entire external reporting process, WebFilings has been able to secure several high-profile clients, including eBay, Inc., Sprint Nextel Corporation, Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. and Winnebago Industries, Inc.

WebFilings represents a business model that's unique to the ISU Research Park: a technology startup that can launch and grow a software company in a very short period of time. In December 2010, WebFilings received a $2.26 million grant from the Iowa Department of Economic Development which will help create 250 new jobs in the state.

WebFilings' operations and development center, which houses the vast majority of their staff, is located at the ISU Research Park. The company is headquartered in Los Altos, California.

GlobalVetLink Case Study

GlobalVetLink is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model, providing a centralized method for veterinarians to meet regulatory requirements for animal movements (interstate and intrastate) across all 50 states.

ISU Research Park has served as GlobalVetLink's gateway into the ISU community, helping them grow through resources:

  • Monthly collaborative IT meetups which allow for information-sharing and networking with other Park tenants.
  • Timely referrals of quality students and faculty for staffing and knowledge base.
  • Introductions to political contacts.
  • Expansion of GlobalVetLink facilities.

According to Kevin Maher, Founder, the Park has also been available for generation of new ideas while providing reliable resources. "ISU Research Park has been a sounding board for use of outside resources from private industry and have also assisted with business development and planning. When we want an introduction to a new company or ISU employee, the connections are made very quickly."

Priority 5 Case Study

Priority 5's patent-pending Touch Assisted Command and Control System (TACCS) software is a state-of-the-art net-centric data aggregation, situational awareness and decision support system.

TACCS delivers a real-time geospatial framework that can be used to manage critical operations – such as disaster responses – as well as perform training and a myriad of analytical functions. TACCS-based systems have been deployed at multiple federal, state and local governmental agencies.

Shortly after its formation, Priority 5 acquired Infiscape, a company with origins in Iowa State's Virtual Reality Application Center (VRAC). As a startup at the Research Park, Infiscape had quickly become a leader in adapting virtual reality applications and visualization solutions to practical business problems.

ISU Research Park has been invaluable in the guidance, support and resulting growth of the company – they supported Infiscape by providing business formation advice; they supported Priority 5 by being flexible with office space needs and finding the people and resources needed to expand. In fact, without the Research Park's resource-rich environment, Infiscape would never have formed and would not be here as Priority 5 today.

According to Allen Bierbaum, Vice President Technology, Priority 5, "The orientation of ISU to practical research and development combined with the university's qualified faculty, graduates and students makes ISU Research Park an ideal location for our technology center."
